DESIGN HOUSE

Design-House

What started off as a mere idea over a year ago turned into reality last month when we had the privilege to partner with a few of Hawaii's talented artisans and creatives to build a one-of-a-kind experience.

The Concept

Design House was a three-day exhibition to celebrate and showcase the bridging principles of how various design disciplines can inspire one another. As Event Designers, a critical component of designing events and crafting experiences for our clients involves exploring aspects of what makes each individual client and event unique. This involves drawing inspiration from a variety of areas-- from where they like to shop, travel, eat and what they do in their spare time. This process revealed striking similarities across several design disciplines and the idea of building a physical and figurative Design House to celebrate these commonalities was born.

Design House was meant to be an experience not only to celebrate and showcase how various design disciplines can inspire one another, but to initiate conversations and inspire others through design.

The Experience

A 2-D house was built within the Cupola Theater at the Honolulu Design Center and featured custom fabric walls conceptualized by CURATE and brought to life by an amazing team, including engineer Jordan Cabras and production by Jet Graphics (a HONBLUE company). Each room in the house featured key fashion pieces from the fashion designers of The Cut Collective alongside furniture from INspiration Interiors

Over the period of three days, visitors were invited to experience the exhibition through self-guided tours. A total of six rooms were created and contained curated stories highlighting the fashion garments and the furniture pieces--including a den, living room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom, and outdoor patio.

The Events

Several events were also crafted throughout the exhibition including a live fashion show, reception for media and industry guests, and a special menu offered by Stage Restaurant at The Honolulu Design Center which featured a signature cocktail pairing. A designers "Open House" was also held inside the Design House to allow guests to learn more about the exhibition and ask questions. Lastly, a pop-up shop was created by The Cut Collective where patrons could purchase wares from their current collections.

The Team

A special shout-out to all the amazing crew who helped bring Design House to life:
