The Midas Touch

Grad season is in full swing and last week we had the honor to design a private dinner for a nursing school graduate held at one of our favorite local restaurants, The Pig & The Lady.

After meeting with the celebrant and her husband, our goal was to design an elegant and glamorous environment that was formal but not stuffy. We love the lofty ceilings and brick walls of the restaurant’s newly opened 2nd floor event space, and we aimed to design a space that complemented the surroundings. We were immediately inspired by the graduate’s cap and gown and introduced a classic black and white color palette with gold accents to create a bold statement for this fun and lively couple.

With an intimate guest list, we incorporated a 28-foot long Kings Table to complement the family-style dinner alongside our Louis Ghost Chairs to provide the perfect accent of modern edge and classic sensibility. As the hero of the design, we produced a custom fabricated structure consisting of 5 of our Venetian Chandeliers and adorned with over 1,750 gold ribbons, which was inspired by the tassels of a graduation cap. Each ribbon was hand-cut and meticulously applied over the course of two days to form this 26' long, 5' tall, 2' wide structure.

The tablescape included a black and white runner with gold chargers, and custom-printed menus rolled to mimic an old-fashioned diploma. Luxe floral centerpieces consisting of white vendela roses and green dianthus in stunning gold vases were created by our team to provide a modern and organic element to the tablescape.

Lastly, we created a chic and fun backdrop using our Rose Flower Wall decorated with 40” gold mylar balloons spelling the graduate’s name.

We had an incredible time designing this event and creating a memorable evening for the celebrant and her friends & family.

Congrats to all the 2015 grads and here’s to a bright future full of opportunity and success!

White Out at Iolani Palace

Launched in 1988 by François Pasquier and several friends in Paris, Dîner en Blanc is a surprise pop-up picnic style event, where guests are asked to dress elegantly in white, bring their own epicurean feasts, tables, chairs, fine china, silverware and white tablecloths. (Oh, did we mention guests aren't informed of the dinner location until they arrive at a designated meeting point and led to the secret spot? ... how mysterious!).

Today, Dîner en Blanc has grown to over 40 cities across five continents, and we were absolutely thrilled to be a part of Hawaii's inaugural dinner in Honolulu. After much anticipation, guests were taken to the secret site of the first Dîner en Blanc in Hawaii: the country's only royal residence, Iolani Palace.

To top it off, we were honored and excited to provide the decor for our host, Jason Kim, and the massive 66-foot long Kings Table for his 49 special guests.

Inspired by the many cities that have hosted previous dinners, we created graphic centerpieces spelling out the words "ALOHA" to represent our city in a fun and modern way (after all, what better way to welcome Dîner en Blanc to the islands than through the spirit of aloha!). To ensure the decor reflected the chic and sophisticated spirit of the event, we selected urns in a classic silhouette as a statement vessel to balance the bold letters.

Standing over 46 inches tall, the 3D letters were hand-carved and mounted in the oversized white urns. We installed miniature spotlights to ensure the letters were illuminated as evening fell and incorporated fresh Baby's Breath at the base of each letter to create an elegant and etherial feeling.

As a fun keepsake, the Baby's Breath were given to guests as miniature bouquets at the end of the evening.

As a huge social gathering with over 750 attendees, we also wanted to provide an interactive element for our guests. So we customized imported Japanese paper fans with hand-cut moustache and lip decals to help guests cool off (and to provide the perfect selfie accessory!).

Lastly, it wouldn't be a fabulous dinner without delicious eats. Chef Shoji Namatame of BLT Steak, created a delicious custom spread for the 50 guests featuring a decadent menu of vichyssoise, cold cuts, grilled vegetables, imported and domestic cheeses, turkish beef and chicken kebabs, and vegetable pilaf.

We had an incredible time celebrating the night away and met some wonderful folks. Great job to everyone who helped bring this social soiree to Hawaii. We can't wait for next year's Dîner en Blanc!
