Passion in Paradise

Nothing says paradise like a lush collection of tropical foliage and florals. Add in delicious premium shortbread cookies and a bit of aloha and you've got the perfect combination.

This past weekend we had the opportunity to collaborate with one of Hawaii's beloved brands, the Honolulu Cookie Company, and artist Janet Tran of the University of Hawaii's art department to celebrate the launch of this year's Valentine cookie collection through an interactive photo experience.

Held at the Waikiki Beach Walk, guests were invited to sample delicious heart-shaped cookies, receive a complimentary box of hand-dipped chocolate cookies, and take a valentine's portrait in front of a tropical floral wall designed by Janet. Moreover, we especially loved the support provided by this event--for every photo taken, the Honolulu Cookie Company donated $10 to the University of Hawaii's scholarship fund to support art education (how awesome!)

Design is a fluid process, and it was fun collaborating with the Honolulu Cookie Company and Janet to help bring her concept to life. With an overall design in hand, we sourced, fabricated, project managed, and installed an 8x8 tropical backdrop. Using our Boxwood backdrop as a base, we incorporated a lush collection of anthuriums, hanging heliconias, xanadu leaves, lauae ferns, and monstera to create a tropical floral wall. We then helped design a dimensional logo in the shape of a heart to tie in the valentine's theme and promote their product. The wall was branded on both sides with a hanging heart on the reverse side to allow passersby to view the wall from the main road.

House of Cards

House-of-Cards-Roulette

It's 22 days into the new year and it feels just like yesterday we were ringing in 2015. This past December, we had the awesome privilege to design the New Year's Eve celebration for The Addiction Night Club and The Modern Honolulu Hotel

The Concept

Inspired by the glitz and excitement of Las Vegas, their "House of Cards" theme was brought to life through a classic icon--the playing card. To infuse the House of Cards theme into the event, we designed a series of custom playing cards and used this in multiple applications and touch-points throughout the venue.

The Experience

To evoke the glamour of a Las Vegas nightclub, we designed a variety of spaces to engage and immerse guests in the House of Cards. As guests entered the event, we positioned a 12-foot step & repeat cladded with boxwood and custom oversized playing cards to highlight the event sponsors. The boxwood injected a vibrant textural element to bring the outdoors in, and infused a fashionable backdrop reminiscent of a red carpet event--the perfect introduction for guests to experience the opulence of Vegas.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Vegas-themed evening without the lure and excitement of a casino, so we were thrilled to create an over-the-top environment for their gaming space. To highlight this area, we decided to construct a real-life House of Cards by producing and building walls consisting of 8,072 hand-strung playing cards. Each wall spanned 41 feet wide and 9.5 feet high to surround guests within the "house." This space was the perfect gathering spot for guests and included gaming tables, lounge seating, and of course one of the four bars that evening (..after all, Vegas is an adult playground!). Lastly, the branded walls also provided guests with another backdrop to take their best selfie.

The nightclub area was also decked out (pun intended) with playing card elements--including table decor highlighting the event's hashtag, and playing card table runners made of the custom cards to serve as a base for bottle service (yup, glowing ice buckets and bottles are a must!).

To top it off, we constructed a custom boxwood DJ booth with oversized playing cards to continue the House of Cards theme within the main ballroom. Bold lighting that changed colors throughout the evening also illuminated the space.
