Architecture with Aloha

Design may not be the first word that pops into your head when dreaming of sandy beaches and tropical cocktails. However, that's exactly the first impression we experienced at one of our favorite Hawaii resorts, The Andaz Maui. With summer upon us, it's the perfect time to reminisce on one of our recent travels that imparted the perfect blend of architecture and aloha.

Opened in 2013, this beautiful property sits across 15-acres along the edge of the blue waters of the Pacific. In fact, this property bestows a true immersive experience and delivers guests into a state of relaxation, luxury, and aloha. First impressions matter, and the Andaz Maui doesn't disappoint. The entryway is flanked by reflection pools and immediately draws guests into the open aired lobby. With soaring ceilings, an unobstructed view of the ocean, and a strategically placed sand-pit, the lobby is masterfully designed. Reminiscent of a zen garden, the sand-pit evokes a playful yet purposeful way to bring the essence of the beach closer to guests.

As fans of architecture and design, we were in sensory overload both from the natural beauty of the surroundings and the thoughtful elements of the building and decor. We fell in love with the tiered infinity pools, the floor to ceiling apothecary cabinets in the `Āwili Spa, and the farm-to-table dishes at Kaʻana Kitchen. Perhaps one of the impressive elements was the grand staircase, constructed of walnut and designed to mimic the soft curves of a canoe. It's these touches of craftsmanship and local storytelling that bring this property to life.

Mahalo to the Andaz team for another incredible stay and sharing your warm hospitality!
